Week 1
Day 1
29th July; Oxford to London (Lee)
Amazing couple of days. Absolutely fantastic send off for the 10am start. Thank you to everyone who attended for all the best wishes. Thanks to the Condors and Stolen Goat for the company- you are awesome. Ride of two halves. Lovely and hilly Chiltons followed by very hot and busy but iconic London. Thanks to Maria and Phil for the hospitality. It was lovely - especially after a puncture and loss of body fluid!
Riding for Nicky Walker listening to Metallica
Day 2
30 June ; London to Guines
to Calais - Kent is officially hilly and beautiful. Will be in France tonight!
Day 3 and part of Day 4.
1st July ; Guines to Pys to Laon
Arrived in beautiful France. Lovely and amazing to see Arne T. Wolters and Anouk on route. Poppies, wind turbines, gravel and hills . Passed through Arras - heading for a campsite. Note to self - don’t put the open feature on google maps- campsites close early in France
Wild campsite at the side of the road! Beautiful sunset.
Woke up to what sounded like a blackbird in the tent (fortunately it was out side). Reheated the cold tea and set off. Passing through the war cemeteries- very moving. Ended up on a grass track along the Somme. Decided to take the road route!
Day 5 and 6
3rd and 4th July; Laon to Vitry-le-Francois
of our world record attempt. Continued through Champagne country (still without the champagne) on route to Dijon. Beautiful morning with cafe strategically placed (for the first time). Route took us along a lake - stunning. Sunflowers
