Week 38
Day 260
Saturday 14th March 2020
Lacanau to Rochefort.
We carried on heading north through the beautiful forests of France. We cycled mainly off road on the numerous cycle tracks in this area, but occasionally on the small country roads passing through villages.
We stopped for lunch and were charged an extortionate amount for an omelet - which made paying 4 times for the same stuff in Lidl look cheap.
We made it to the ferry, at the aptly named Pointe de Grave - there were only a few cars crossing to Royan.
We cycled on past wetlands - spotting storks again - and crossing a bridge into Rochefort.
We were staying at an apartment (which we thought was cheaper than a hostel or hotel) - we were told on arrival that we would be charged for linen and towels (a lot) - I don’t know if it’s the Yorkshire in me (or whether we were fed up after lunch) but we refused to pay - so we are camping out in sleeping bags.
Just heard that France is going into lock down - cafes, restaurants and shops (except food shops) will be shut for midnight . We’ll just keep heading north.
Day 261
Sunday 15th March 2020
Rochefort to Saint-Vincent-Sterlanges.
Given the news that all cafes and restaurants in France would be closed, we headed to a supermarket and bakery to stock up on food for the day.
There doesn’t seem to be the panic buying in France that we’ve heard about in
