Week 6

Day 36.

Saturday 3rd August 2019

Made a quick exit from the campsite having overslept with snoring (not me or Razzle Marsden!), music and general bedlam. Cycled into Kavala along the coast looking at the ancient walls and climbing the cobbled streets (Alice loves Pavé). Slightly in-land with the backdrop of volcanoes majestic in the background.

Back down to the coast into a national park with its lakes, pelicans and views over the wetlands. Really beautiful. Ride punctuated with relics and Byzantine buildings still standing centuries later. Saw Storks on a nest with a fledgling. On into Komotini as the sky darkened and a storm rapidly approached.  The wind was so strong it was hard to control the bike. Booked and Air B&B. Went to the address on apple maps which was wrong.  Another 5 miles down the road. Couldn't find the house but finally did just in time before a storm of biblical proportions hit. Thunder lightning- the whole works! Watched it laughing about how we had avoided it - but only just - and being really glad we are not camping. Heading for the Turkish border tomorrow.
